The rod finish didn't even coat most of the underwrap ! The finish just moved around in a marbling fashion like the thread was contaminated with silicon or somthing ! It's a brand new spool of red. Just used a spool of blu with no problems Whats happening here ?

Just like you said. Something contaminated your spool of thread. Where was it stored at ? Did you spray anything near your work area or thread storage area or handled anything such as oil, furniture polish, wax or anything else that may contain silicone or oils ? Maybe something got on your thread some time ago and you didn't realize it.

When I get any kind of thread in be it nylon or metallic it goes directly in a drawer with the rest of my thread. I never leave it out or on a shelf or anywhere for that matter when it's not being used.

J metallic is the best metallic thread I've ever used and just about the only metallic thread that I use. In all my years of using it I've never had any kind of contamination problem with it.

All my thread goes in ziplock bags and then into the desk drawer and only sees the light of day when it's needed.

Ditto Dave on hiding the thread in the dark drawer. I see a lot of photos with thread spools on pin racks all over peoples shops and 12 spools mounted on a lathe rack and shudder. One sneeze by a basser with chewing tobacco in his mouth would ruin my supply of litght colors! When the misquito spray truck comes by in the evening spraying with the diesel fogger it could bankrupt me.

It's still boggling me becouse i pulled the plastic sleeve of the fresh spool of thread and went to town. I'm carfull not to have hands dirty or have contminants like pledge or oils around. I'm starting to wonder about the blank surface beneth the thread prior to wrapping, other people handling could have contaminated it.
Or could the plastic sheath the spool came in have some kind of affect on the first few layers of thread? I love j-metallic myself but now will have to go through the trouble of sample testing before using again. Has anyone had this problem im freakin over?
