Rod varnish?

Would like to know the diffrants betwen rod varnish and rod finish? Can you use varnish on wraps? Re: Rod varnish?

Marty, you can use rod varnish and spar varnish as a rod finish. Gudebrod makes a rod varnish (water based I believe) and Angler's Workshop sells a rod varnish for bamboo rods, but would work with graphite or fiberglass rods as well. Varnish is rather thin (low viscosity) which means you would need to use several coats. In general varnish is not as hard and does not last as long as such rod finishes as epoxy finishes, Perma Gloss urethane finish or Diamondite (see Swifty/Diamondite in the list on your left). These finishes are very hard, remain flexible, and you need less coats than varnish finishes. I hope this helps.
