Hello,
I'm a newbie and am having trouble wrapping the last guide on an 81/2 ft rod. I can't find a way to situate the rod on my wrapper (flexcoat speedwrapper SW1) so that the guide is between two supports. If I try to wrap it using one support I can't keep a steady tension on the thread. Advice? I hope my description of the problem makes sense. Thanks in advance for help. Have you possibly become a slave to your tool? Why not just take that section out of the wrapper, lay it across your lap and wrap the offending guide by hand? ~Bert Re: wrapping last guide problem

Sometimes I'll use a wrapping bobbin for the last guide or tip wrap if it's too flimsy for me to support on the wrapper. Walt Davenport "Roadhouse Rods" Re: wrapping last guide problem

I use a couple of topless cardboard boxes with a couple of v-shaped slots cut in the sides of each box to support my blank. Just move the blank or the boxes to one side or the other until only about 1 1/2 inches of tip is left unsupported. Spread the boxes, as necessary to support the blank. If you cut the slots fairly accurately, you'll have 3 or 4 support points along the length of the blank. The little bit of tip that hangs over the edge won't move very much. Al,
Nail or glue two pieces of wood together to make an L bracket. Then put a finishing nail covered with plastic tubing, or tape (sized to fit into your tip top eye) into the wood at the same height of the center of your rod chuck. Then place the pin into the tip top and weight the L bracket down so it will not move. This will solve your last guide wrapping problem. Make sure the pin is pink in color - because I love pink. This is one of the many reasons I wrap by hand. You may be using too much tension on the thread. I use a bit of scrap blank for this. Oh, I prefer a Flex-Coat SW-1 hand wrapper. If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: wrapping last guide problem

My wrapper is a hand powered unit so I must have gotten the name wrong.
Sorry. Thanks, Al Re: wrapping last guide problem

i'm with bert. i've found it's quite easy to simply wrap out of the stand freehand...
