I have a Jet Mini Lathe 1014. I'd like to have a centering chuck on the headstock. The head stock on the Jet has 4 holes to which a chuck mounts. The 3 jaw chuck I have has 3 posts to mount. 3 posts 4 holes.... Therin lies my dilemna? Is there a adapting plate one can buy?

So, anybody got a self centering chuck system on their Jet? What did you do? Email me photos at gonefishing_55744@hotmail if you would....

Thanks much,

T

Terry do a search here, include all dates and you will get a ton of reading.
The head stock on the jet mini is 1" x 8 threads, the 4 hole you talk about comes off and then you screw on the 3 jaw.

Terry - I think you may be confusing the faceplate that comes with the lathe with the actual spindle. Any chuck you buy that has a 1"x8TPI thread on it will fit your Jet, and most other, mini/midi lathes. You have to remove the faceplate and you will see that the faceplate itself is 1x8TPI and threaded onto the headstock. If your 3 jaw chuck is 1x8TPI you will be good to go. If not, I believe Penn State Industries sells adapters.

there are many good chucks that will fit the jet. just get one that fits 1x8tpi. i would bet that the chuck you have can use an adapter if it doesnt fit. contact who you bought it from or one of the woodturning suppliers. i have several penn state chucks that have done well for me. i would recommend a 4-jaw. this will allow you to hold square and round stock (mostly for centerboring). make sure you get one with jaws that will hold the size stock you plan on using or that has different jaws that you can change. if you will be in high point you can talk to the folks at woodcraft or packard and i am sure either will be able to help you
