A friend of mine has asked me to build him a rod for fishing for giant bluefin here in the northeast. I have built rods for him in the past the latest was a stand-up 130lb rod which he is happy with. Looking for any info on blanks that are intended for giant bluefin rods, reels will be 130lb class reels. Rod is meant to be used in swivel rod holders.
I have seen rods called "Chatham Specials" but not sure of whose blank they may be on. Also any info on guides, wrapping etc. would be great Re: Giant Bluefin Rods

most definately go with a 180 class rod and HD roller guides from Aftco. The Storabutts are very nice but not necessary. I am building a set of 4 for a customer now and he is going all out with the Storabutts and the HD ball bearing roller guides. I am using the lamiglass blanks. Nice combo. Too bad there aren't that many Bluefins around anymore, but that is a whole other topic. Re: Giant Bluefin Rods

I would echo the 180lbs rods as i expect they will be using 200lbs line.
I like the calstar also. My only comment would be to ensure your friend has re-enforced the gunnel where the swivel rod holder goes..ie..a solid backing plate.. I have seen to many blown out gunnels. A true giant hitting with the high drag really puts some strain there.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
