First time doing double overbinds on this RCLB and I am finding it darn near impossible to finish the top wrap without any gaps in the thread, burnishing doesn't close them up as it is sitting in the humps of the thread below.
Seeing as the threads are the same colour will the gaps be visible after the epoxy (flexcoat hibuild) is applied? Thanks All!! Ben Re: Double Overbind gaps - A problem?

If the bottom layer is wrapped while constantly packing to close any gaps with a little more tenison than the top wrap - has no gaps - and the "overbind" is wrapped with the same size thread and slightly less tension there will be no reason for any gaps. If you have gaps in the top wrap there are several options: 1. Play like you do not see the gaps and finish the rod and take it fishing. 2. Apply a coat of finish to the underwrap before doing the overbind wrap. 3. Take it all loose and start over. From what you are describing I would guess that your underwrap is a little too loose for the amount of tension you are using on the overbine. YOU will always be able to see the imperfections in your work - most others will never notice. One thing nice about it is the fish the thing catches will never know the difference.

I am just finishing up an RCLB70M for a Friend. I under wrapped in metalic thread then I always put a coat of color perserver on it before starting my overwrap. I use size A thread on the bottum wrap and size B,C,or D on the overwrap which really helps. If you are using the same color threads it might not show so much of the inperfections of loose threads and the threads Falling into the gaps. Like Bill said in #2 you can always put a thin coat of finish down on the first wrap before the second, which will really help. the only part about that is I would be extra careful about contamination while applying the second wrap, oil from you hands getting on the first coat.
Thanks for choosing an Batson Ent - RCLB >>> This is a fine fishing tool and you will have many great fishing experiences with it.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
