Dead EASY rod to build 6'6" spinning rod. A full day into this project and I'm convinced that everything about this rod is conspiring against me. Glue squirting out from under the reel seat (oozing). Hypalon that had bubbles embedded (hidden until I started shaping - YES 'on the rod' not on a mandrel). Metallic under wrap thread like spring steel. Abraded spool of nylon over wrap thread (smooth, fray, fray, then smooth). Bounced two guides down into the disc sander. Ran out of ink in the printer. Final straw equal measures of the same component of epoxy guide finish= Well THAT ain't gonna $*($#$) work ! ...Giving it up until tomorrow === has to be done for Christmas. LOL!!!
Ken, I had one of those a while back. I even started over on the same blank twice........ Sometimes you just need to leave it alone for a bit and show it who's boss :-) DR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/21/2007 08:15PM by Duane Richards (DR). Re: The rod that refuses to be built!

We play a card game called "bouirre" down here! Quitting is called "fisheay" and anyone who has no guts will ultimately leave the table busted!. You are not allowed to quit in the middle of any hand no matter what cards you may be dealt. If you quit now that rod will surely come back in multiple pieces three days after delivery with your free replacement warranty dealing you a final coup de gras! Then all will be lost! Procrastination will never win out - face up and be brave - go back in the shop and finish the infernal thing - NOW!
I am sipping a glass of the thing that most enjoy and all wrapping is done until after the first of the year! Gon Fishn Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/21/2007 08:14PM by Bill Stevens. Re: The rod that refuses to be built!

Ken,
Today must have been a "jenks" day. I got three guides with trim bands on a seven foot spin. I had thread breaks, unraveling, and everyting else. Thread would not move-you name it- ( I had it). Write today until Wednesday off and have an ejoyable Christmas. You are not the only one. See you in High Point! Ed Smith Flat Rock, NC. Re: The rod that refuses to be built!

Put the finish on the last rod just before I went to work, hopefully it's still turning when I get home. Re: The rod that refuses to be built!

Deadlines are great.....pressure is great, when theres deadlines......................RELEIVE the pressure. Stan T Claws NERB that types with a bar of Ivory soap in his mouth. Re: The rod that refuses to be built!

Earlier today, I delivered my little "Satanic" rod for the season. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough to suit me.
Stupid thing caused me weeks of grief ... I actually built it twice to get it right and EACH build needed a few repairs. I was really close to just giving him a refund. His order was wrought with 50% or more of the total errors I made this year. Worst of all, it was one of my least expensive builds - very basic and a low modulus blank to boot. You will get past it Ken. Just don't expect it to go away easily - but eventually your persistence will pay off. Re: The rod that refuses to be built!

HA! I quit for awhile, ate dinner, watched a little football then reglued the handle (around 10PM). It bothered me so much that I woke up at 4AM - about two hours earlier than normal & finished it by 6 this morning! Everything went smoooth as warm mayonnaise. And yes it was an inexpensive blank, basic layout, no NERBs work but a Christmas gift from a father to son so it had to be done -- luckily no one else was around so The Who " Who Are You?"mixed with ZZ Top "She's Got Legs" was on repeat for an hour - there are now guaranteed NO insects or mice in the walls of the house. Ok so today is a New Day & three more rods to finish up --- but not by Christmas. Two of them are headed to Florida before January 15 close of the season for snapper(?) I'm glad you posted the happy ending. Gives me inspiration to go to the shop and wrap - for the third time - my "rod the refuses to be built": painted white twice, second time after seat attached do 2 white finger prints removed from seat, epoxy ramp redone 3 times, 2 lost #6 fly guides, gray thread that just won't pack tight enough. Can't wait to see what fnishing is like. Need delivery Monday for Christmas Eve birthday. Hope this makes you feel better Ken :) Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
