American Tackle sws70mh w/Fuji NC guides

I am using the NC for the first time on a baitcasting rod. I looked at the charts on mudhole for a starting point for spacing. This blank is 7' 12-20# med-heavy rated. What I ended up doing was let the blank show me where and how many guides were needed thru static tests. I ended up with blnag 16j,12j,10j, bunag 8j (3ea), bunag 7j (4ea), blag7j and a bfat 7 tip. That's 11 total, it loads fine but seems like a lot. Is there something I could have done differently?

IMO you don't need more than 3 possibly 4 guide sizes. I think that the Fuji system is flwed and doesn't take the rod/reel in to consideration at all

Let the rod reel tell you where and how many guides. Put the guides on and do a static test and adjust accordingly. I would start with Blnag 16, 10, 8 and about 5 Blag's and go from there. Have you considered a Simple Spiral wrap

Hi Jay,

I think you are using to many guides. A 7ft blank usually has 7 - 8 guides. Are you doing a conventional baitcasting setup or some type of spiral setup?? I have not used the American Tackle blank you are using but I have build a lot of rods using Baston SW70 series blanks (which I think are the same or very close) and have never used more than 8 guides.

I use the guide setup as found in the Clemems books to get a rough location for guide placement then fine tune it using the static test.

I don't think you would set up the Fuji "New Conept" guides any differently than the way you used to set up your rods using older versions of Fuji two foot casting and single foot fly guides. If you want to use a "new concept" in baitcasting guide set up, simple spiral wrap the rod and use Fuji LSG 3.5s the whole way out on the bottom.
