I'm just having a fit trying to wrap this thread. I wrap with what I think is about the right tension as compared to when I wrap gudebrod thread but when I pack it, it it all loosens up. Will someone please help me the correct tension, if that's possible? Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

Tim, are you using the Poly Neon 40 wt? Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

are you packing as you wrap or just at the end?
other than that, the only thing that really makes sense to me is that its not enough tension though somebody may know better than I Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

I'm packing it as I go. One other thing that might be a problem is that the blank is a magnum taper and it seems to be loosening toward the tip. Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

It takes a constant pressure that's more than you think. It stretches. It packs OK but on a really fast taper it takes patience to get each following wrap because of the need to keep the tension right, but that's true of most any thread.
It just takes patience and practice. But it's worth it when you see the finished work. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

Because it is a sewing thread, I believe it has a bit of lubricant added to it so it will go through the machine more smoothly. This also is why it needs a CP to maintain its true color on a wrap. I think this lubricant may cause it to slide a little more than Gudebrod A, while wrapping. I have gotten used to it and often adjust the tension on it during a wrap, especially during a second thread color inlay. Pack it as needed while you wind it, rather than trying to move it a lot after the wrap. I have used it to wrap epoxy ramps that were angled rather sharply. I do sand the surface of the ramp with rough ScotchBrite and wrap up. The color choices are wonderful. Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

Joshua and Uncle Russ, thanks for the replies. I started over and made the initial layout tighter. Will see how it goes with the packing with the tighter wrap. Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

Steve, Thanks for your reply. Yes so many colors to choose from. I have already bought quite a few spools and hope I will be able to use them. Re: Wrapping Madeira Thread

Tim - this is part of the reason why I will not use it on guide wraps. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
