Epoxy paint for guidewraps

There was a fellow who posted here for some time about using an epoxy based paint for coating guidewraps. He had a specific brand he recommended but after numerous searches I haven't been able to find any of his posts... any leads on what he was using or who the poster was so I can search by author? Thanks - just want to give it a try sometime...

Chuck, You may be thinking of Permaglos. It's not an epoxy it's a Urethane coating. I often use it as a first coat.

I think you may be referring to Hobby Epoxy... It was an epoxy paint and smelled really bad. Used it for years and then I quit building for 5 years and now I am back into it.. LOVED IT!!

I made some inquires on where and how to get some Hobby Epoxy when I stated building again, only to find they are no longer in business and it was replaced by Klass Kote, which I use. It is as thin as water and appears to be durable. I have several rods that are near 15-16 years old that I used Hobby Epoxy on and they are still crystal clear and beautiful (in my opinion). I have a rod or two I have used Klass Kote on and they are crystal clear and appear to be holding up quite well.

Go to the Klass Kote website and you can get an idea of what I am talking about.

I have now adapted to LS Supreme, Thread Master, Permagloss (for feathers and first coat on thread), Klass Kote and Flex Coat.....depending on the project I am working on. Heated LS Supreme is tough to beat. Klass Kote is also great for a thin application where no high build is neccessary.

DO NOT APPLY HEAT TO THE EPOXY PAINTS....POOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and you now have a turning blaze to put out....LOL

Good Luck

Terry

Klass Kote was a sponsor here a few years ago, the epoxy was originally used to paint model airplanes, etc., but makes a pretty decent finish also. It come clear or a rainbow of colors.
There are probably pics of this finish here, but I know there are some good ones on the Worried Shrimp site.
