Is any one familar with Talon rods?Thinking of a 15' to use as a float rod. Are they good quality? Are they rated as a Raven,IM6,IM8 or Loomis? How are they rated in modulous graphite. I would like a med/fast.Thanks,Jerry Re: Talon Rods

Have you been to their site? www.talon-graphite.com I believe. The people I've fished with in Canada prefer them to Loomis and Sage, and every bit as nice as the Ravens. Very well thought of up there. Re: Talon Rods

I have a 13' Talon ITM (and REALLY like it). They also make 15' and 17' in a different series (not listed on the website). Email Dwight and he'll be able to help you. Re: Talon Rods

Dwight @ Talon is a great guy to deal with and I like their blanks a lot. The ITM is a nice series, light and not too soft.

Talon is the latest incarnation of the original Loomis Composites Company which was founded around 1976 or so. It then became LCI, LCI/Osprey and finally just Talon. They're not extremely well known outside of the Pacific Northwest but they have been building rod blanks for numerious blank resellers and commercial rod operations for 30 years now. They've always produced a nice product.

Email Emory Harry. I believe Emory has built a few of their rods. Anglers Workshop carries them. Tom is correct about Talon's connection with GLoomis. Gary sold the company a few years back.

I've tried a few of the long rods up in Canada and they are a little longer than I like, but they do catch fish. Just not sure I'd catch anymore than I do now with the longer rods. That said the Talons I noticed were not as slow actioned as many I've fished and smooth fishing at the same time. There reputation is well deserved as is Raven's and the other nice rod was I think was a Whitewater or something similar. Like I said give me my Rainshadow 1263 or 4 anytime. Re: Talon Rods

I've owned a few of their blanks/rec'd excellent service from them over the years.
As to their longer rods I find them somewhat overbuilt/tip heavy and prefer Loomis for river fishing here in BC. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
