I picked up an old Feralite fly rod off @#$%&. The finish has worn off the edges of a few of the guide wraps, exposing a bit of thread. I'm thinking of touching it up with Permagloss. Would it react badly with the underlying finish?
I also have some Helmsman spar varnish as an alternative. Re: Refinishing wraps on old Fenwick

To be on the safe side add color preserver {CP} to the exposed threads let dry and then put some sort of finish on.
Either the Permagloss or Helmsman will be fine. Tight Lines Tight Wraps Fishin'Stix by Fred Re: Refinishing wraps on old Fenwick

Curtis I did a Fenwick Ferlight for a friend last summer. It had 20 years worth of hard fishing. I just c.p.ed the exposed threads and put a coat of TM over them. It looked great and will last another twenty years. The first rod I ever built is a fenwick ferlight Kit I got in the mail. A little 7 ft 2 wt fly rod. I paired it with a new hardy brothers reel and went to the stream trout hunting back in the late 70s or early eighties. I still have it!! Although my rod making has come a long way as far as quality and astetics thats still the best rod I ever built. Just because it was my first and with no help besides a 6 or so page pamphlet. Besides that it started my addiction to this craft. Re: Refinishing wraps on old Fenwick

Thanks for the suggestions. I may test the CP and Permagloss on a small spot first.
The rod is an FF75, and it lays a 5 weight line out soft and sweet. It has the delicacy of a 3 weight. Congrats on having an original Feralite kit rod. I hope you still fish it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
