Here it is with my Islander Steelheader reel. It is a Fuji IPSM reelseat with the Fuji BGS8512C rear grip. However, the grip is mounted backwards and used as a foregrip and I used rubberizes rings for trim. This is what I've come to know as a Michigan-style grip and allows me to hold a bit higher up on the rod for balance instead of addding weight to the butt or use a heavier reel.
It's not my idea, I got it from Cedric Knuckey, a rodbuilder from Minnesota. I've used this setup on my two float rods and my last 3 Salmon rods. I even took my 8 1/2' factory GLoomis 1025S that was tip heavy, turned the cork down on the butt section on my lathe, bored the cork out to 1/2" or so and slid the entire handle on from the butt end so I could maintain the factory silkscreen logo area. Even when I hold the rod well in front of the reel it's still easy to cast with and alot more comfortable to fish with all day. Good luck. [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: Tim Collins

Tim: nice handle. I do something similar when I make my foregrip. I generally make a 6-8" for grip for my float sticks.I like to have some meat to grab onto when fighting steelies, however I do add weight in the butt to balance each stick,For it seems to help arm fatigue. To each their own .Nice handle though.
