While I have read some of the posts on spiral wraps and just ordered a couple of back issues of Rodmaker Mag on this subject; I have a couple of thoughts on this. First, would a spinning rod blank be advantageous (offering greater action) and since most of the guides are on the bottom are you able to use less guides than a coventional bait casting rod? There is no difference between a "spinning" blank and a "casting" blank. They are made exactly the same way and the manufacturer just slaps one or the other moniker on them. "Greater action?" I have no idea what that means. Action is where the rod initially flexes.
In some instances you can use less guides with a spiral set up than with a conventional guides on top set up. This is particularly true the longer the rod is. ............... Re: Spiral Wrap

Tom,
Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. I guess the distributors that I have ordered from at times in the past have advertised the slow action blanks as spinning and the fast as baitcast. At least that seems to be what I have received . Though a favorite distributor that I have been ordering from recently advertises them as spin/cast. Re: Spiral Wrap

A spinning blank can have any type of action, from very fast to very slow. So, too, can casting blanks.
