I'm having difficulty with the thread wraps that attach the reel plate over the tape and onto the rod. When I tension the thread tight enough to firmly hold the reel seat the thread digs into the tape. Ugly voids in the wrap and threads stack on each other are the result.
I have noticed that the tape I'm using (1/8th inch thick) is a lot thicker and is more compressable than tape that I have inspected on completed rods. I have checked other tapes from my supplier and they are all (1/16in) 1/2 the thickness. Should I try using thinner tape or do any of you have ideas or solutions. Thanks for any info that you can give. Don Bananaboat Captain Re: Plate reel seats and cork impregnated rubber tape

Had the same problem when I wrapped my SU 1209, had some gaps and roll overs. Wrapped back over it(double wrap) and coated it Looks fine Re: Plate reel seats and cork impregnated rubber tape

Prior to wrapping the tape over the seat, you can apply some CP to the surface of the tape where the thread will go. This hardens the tape surface just a little and makes wrapping easier. Or, just do a double wrap as Barry mentions. It won't add enough weight to be of any concern on that large of a rod and looks just fine once you get finish on it.
