Tip top fit

How snugly should a tip top fit on the blank? I received a blank that had a recommended tip size of 5. I already had a size 4.5 top, and it seemed to slip on easily. There wasn't much room to spare, though. Do you need a little wiggle room to make sure there is enough glue to hold it on?

Nope ... if the tip fits, you must commit.

Curtis,

If it 'slips on easily', without having to force it, then it's the correct size. The closer it is to the size of the blank, the better. There are variances in all blanks, so it's not uncommon for the tips to be smaller/larger than advertised.

Good Luck!

It is also not uncommon for there to be enough variance in tip size plus paint or top coating to allow you go up or down a half size.

Most of the time the manufacturers recomendation is just that. When i buy the parts to build a rod if i don't already have the tips in stock I always buy a couple of sizes up and down of the spec. It will always get used and then i'm not stuck waiting for anything as time is money and a fit is a fit no abouts.

Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought. It fits unusually snugly, so I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a problem.
