tacky finish?

I have never had this problem before. I finished a rod and two days later I marred the finish on a guide because it was still tacky. I guess (even after careful measuring and mixing) I got the mix wrong or didn't mix it well. Anyone have advise on how long I should wait until throwing in the towel and putting another coat on? The guides are of a perfect size right now and I would like to avoid putting more epoxy on if possible. thanks

Assuming you're in a climate that's fairly warm at the moment, after 3 or 4 days your finish has done about all it's going to do.

yeah i would wait a couple days and see what happens...when i first started i got a tacky finish also and after 2 days it was no longer tacky

Sounds like a plan. Its not all that tacky but not hard and glassy yet. Hopefully it will harden up... if not I guess another thin coat will fix it.

Most of the current finishes allow you to add another coat within 24hrs, even if the first coat is still tacky. Whatever went wrong with the first coat, it'll eventually cure underneath the second.

Well I guess I needed to to wait a little longer. The finish is now hard but it took 3 full days of drying. I have never had it take so long so I assume I didn't mix well because I am confident I used equal amounts of resin and hardener. Not sure how I am going to fix the one guide that has a blemish on it. I put the blemish on it by rubbing it with my finger (with some pressure). Not sure if there is any way to buff it out? If not a thin coat of finish should do the trick... Any suggestions?

New thin coat Chris.

Make sure you use a FLAT mixing tool to mix with so that it will "fold" the mix together.

Thanks for the advise.. Now that you say that I I switched from a flat mixing tool to a round one on that coat... Maybe thats why I didn't get a good mix on that coat!!

Chris,

I had trouble with the little round sticks, they never did mix or fold the two parts together correctly. I swaped over to a stainless steel straight spatula for mixing and I never had another problem with finish cureing.
