I use a take-off (True Value model) of the Stanley Sure-Form to get it down to close to the size that I want then use some 60 grit open-style emory cloth and then down from there once it's getting smooth. Just finished one this moment, actually... Putter Williston, ND Re: Burl Cork question

Sur-Form to get to shape. 80, 120, 220, 320, 400 papers to finish.

I have been using this stuff called Dragon Skin by Red Devil. I have also seen it under a different manufacturer called Gator Skin.
It is kinda like a thin flexible cheese grater in sheet form. I like it becasie it takes down the cork without tearing out chunks and I can bend it to help blend shape changes in the handle as I turn. I bought a couple packs of it out of a clearance bin at a hardware store years ago and it is still going strong. Once I have it rough shaped with the dragon skin I use the sandpaper like described above. Ray Re: Burl Cork question

DR I have been doing 900 and 1500 as well just for a minute each and the added effort makes a huge difference Billy b-Rod Re: Burl Cork question
