Mini fighting butt for fly rod

I want to add a single ring of rubberized cork to the end of a reel seat. What would be the best way to attach it?
I'm making a cork insert for the reel seat. I was thinking of leaving off the end cap and epoxying the rubberized cork to the end. Would that be strong enough without extending the end of the blank through it? Re: Mini fighting butt for fly rod

Why not just extend the blank through the single cork ring. It'll only eat up 1/2" of the length and you won't have to worry about it. I'm sure it would be strong enough I'm just thinking about how you would glue it to the bottom of the seat. At least glue the blank in 1/2 the ring (1/4" inch) If you want to preserve as much blank length above the reel seat. Re: Mini fighting butt for fly rod

Thanks. 1/4" is not much of a sacrifice, and it will leave room to plug the hole in the end. I feel kinda stupid for not figuring that out myself. Re: Mini fighting butt for fly rod

No need to feel stupid, but to prevent another "why didn't I think of that before" moment you may want to consider turning that single cork ring to your desired O.D. before mounting it onto the rod or else you are going to have to hand sand it down, that is if you are like me and use your wrapper to turn down your handles.

I would just buy one of our small fighting butts CCFB-2, CEVAFB-2 they are 1 inch long in either eva with cork or cork compostie and cork. Re: Mini fighting butt for fly rod

It's nice to get a response from Karry Batson. Both the rods I'm working on right now are Forecasts: a 6.5' 2 wt and an e-glass spinning blank. I'm using Batson guides, too.
I would consider buying one of your fighting butts, but I already have some composite and burl cork lying around. So, it should be cheap and easy to make them myself. They are mostly to protect the reel and seat when I set the end of the rod down on the ground. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
