Fuji tip top question

I'm building a surf rod for someone who wants chrome guides and Fuji offers the tip top needed (16 ring,12 tube) in the CMNAT version. This top has the added extension that is obviosly ment to be wrapped. I've only done a few surf rods and never used this type of top. My intuition tells me this top would be more suitable for a stiff boat rod than a long surf rod that needs more flexibility in the tip area for casting.
Is there a better altenative or do you feel this type of top is fine for this application? It's the only one I could find in chrome to match the rest of the guides, at least that is what mudhole lists on their site as available in the proper size. Re: Fuji tip top question

The very end of the tip doesn't flex much at all. If it did, it'd break. You'd be fine with that top.
You can also cut the "legs" off if you don't want to wrap it on but make sure the tube is long enough to allow for good adhesion of the tiptop cement or epoxy. ................ Re: Fuji tip top question

MArk, I 'm sorry abotu that abrupt answer, I was on the phone (that's why I spelled everything correctly, lol) As Tom pointed out there is nothign to worry about regarding the felx of teh blank at that point. A 16 ring 12 tube top is hardly a rod which will be affected anyhow. THe MN tip tops were designed to go with teh Low Rdider LC guides, it's a great tip top for surf and boat rods, I like it more than the non wrapping tip tops as it allows me to use less cement to glue the top, sinc eth thread is wrapped over itthat will prevent it from spinning. Mark, for what it's worth, I very much prefer tips with a flange. Billy is right -- you can secure the tip top more securely by wrapping the flange than just by gluing the top. If your surf rods are anything like mine, they'll get banged around some, and the tip will be the part that gets the most abuse. Any extra adhesive security at the tip is worth it for me, so I almost always go with flanged tips on surf rods, and have had good results. Good luck.
