I wrapped a spinning rod out of one of the "garbage can blanks" that my father in law loved and asked me to leave it with him. Problem appears to be that was in April and when I got it back last week I had noticed the wraps had yellowed. He leaves his rods in his jon boat in Murrells Inlet SC, so the rod has been exposed to some direct sun light. Is this normal for epoxys to yellow under severe heat like this? Or can some products stand more abuse than others. I wont say what brand I have been using. But it was new when I purchased in Feb 2007.
Thanks for all replys Brad Hetzel Re: Wraps haved yellowed

I'm guesstin it was Flexcoat!! What color threads are on the rod. Sunlight has a definate effect, especially when it's left out in the sun. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Wraps haved yellowed

I used a gray underwrap, and a blue, black, and Silver metallic diamond wrap. Is it possible to correct this? All the wraps have been affected, but the buttt wrap is 12 inches, so the yellow is hard to miss.

I had 3 rods spend 2 weeks in the sun the beginning of the month and endure 2 sand storms(camping on Assateague Island Md.).One had brand X and yellowed noticeably(honey colored blank w/ teal and burgundy wraps). The other 2 were Threadmaster and are still gin clear(wont say water clear because the water here hasn't been to clear). Some finishes are not UV protected and may yellow. I would call the manufacture. Try sanding the finih with a gray scotch Brite pad a and give it a new thine coat of finish. This may bring back the color.

I think all epoxies yellow over time.
I use Classic Coat and the hardener actually starts to yellow in the plastic containter in about 1 year. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
