I fish the northeast. Mostly the lake shores of the great lakes and a little close surf casting. I like casting plugs and some spoons. I am looking for a blank that will throw a jerk style bait or a rapala long cast for distance. I typically use rods that are 10' or longer and like 6-8lb main line. I have a 10.5' berkley air that I use for most of the casting. It has the backbone to really throw a spoon and the full flex for the lighter plugs 7 - 9" that I usually throw for browns and walleye. Any places to look for distance casting blank with the light weights (not a surf rod) and the lighter lines in mind?

Sounds like the GUSA Surf Assassin would be exactly what you are looking for, although I do not think they are still made. Re: distance casting blanks

Check out the blanks from Mark Crouse of the left, 'The Rod Shop'. I am just wrapping one for the same thing, a Harrison Avon 11'. Great blank. Re: distance casting blanks

The best blanks that I know of in this range are both Conoflex and rated 1 to 3 ounces.
Conoflex Barracuda Conoflex Nevada 13 Roy's Fishing Supply and Nanko's Fishing Supply stock the Barracuda. Here's a link to their phone numbers: [www.donstacklehawaii.com] Merrick Tackle also lists the Nevada and addition similar Conoflex blanks. I have had excellent reports from people fishing these rods. Don Re: distance casting blanks

Jason, I just finished a Batson XST1263 built as an Acid Wrap casting rod with the help of Mark Griffin. I've only cast it in a parking lot / school yard so far but I think once I get on the water with it I'll probably need binoculars to see the splash. Awesome blank.
