Hi all. I need some help with the layout and spacing for the "optical chevron" pattern from Dale Clemen's book. It is an 8 axis multiple pattern. Can some one help with the spacing? My blank diameter is 32mm in the center of the wrap. I already have my axis' marked. I am just not sure how to set up the spacing.
Thanks Paul Re: help with multple axis wrap

32mm diameter?!?! What the heck are you wrapping? That's like one and a quarter inches! Re: help with multple axis wrap

Hey Paul
Personally im not a big fan of the optical patten and not on that size blank the reversing chevron is one of my fav patterns out of that book compress the spacings works best ussally blank diameter x 3.14 wil give you a square spacing and i compress from that bent rods Re: help with multple axis wrap

The 3.14 x D will give you square spacing for each individual thread. When wrapping multiple axis patterns the spacing between each consequitive pattern will be ((3.14xD)/2) for 4 axis ((3.14xD)/4) for 8 axis. You have to divide the circumfrance by half of your planned axis.
I agree though that this pattern is better suited for smaller diamter blanks. Paul gave you great advice with the reversing chevrons on a larger diameter blank. They look great and are easy to do. Here is an example of one I did a while back. [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: help with multple axis wrap

I made a mistake. I meant to say that the blank was 32 mm in circum. My mistake. Thanks for the help though!

Dave - he's doing the butt wrap for a 25' outrigger on a 50' Hatteras. We do them here on the Outer Banks all the time. Matched sets are really popular. Tip-tops are hard to get though - pulleys, of course.

Then the centers are 8mm aprart and the optical chevron will look much better on this blank. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
