Q on tip power for same power, same action, different lengths....

OK, a simple question to help me get a sense of what happens with a blank as it gets longer but maintain the same power/ERN.
Assuming the same series of blanks (i.e. same graphite, scrim, tapers etc.). If in the same series, I have two 5 wt blanks in moderate action that has the same ERN rating. One is 8' long, and one is 10' long. If I'm looking ONLY at the tip 2 feet, would the tip 2 feet be virtually identical in power? Or does the 10' long unit have a stiffer tip to maintain the 5 wt rating? or Vice versa? Sorry about this very basic question. Thanks, Mo Re: Q on tip power for same power, same action, different lengths....

Interesting question. The 8' blank would need to deflect 32 inches and the 10' blank would need to deflect 37 1/3 inches using the same weight to reach that deflection. I think it would be difficult to arrive at the answer to your question due to the difference in taper built into the blanks. You could however measure just the tip two feet of each blank to arrive at their ERN's or power.

PERCENTAGE wise I think they would be the same. Length for length they would not be.
I think your best answer would in the Common Cents System part 2 entitled, "The Big Picture." It had something about measuring portions of the rod, especially the tip area. Re: Q on tip power for same power, same action, different lengths....

In practical terms, I think you effectively end up with a "longer" (or, more moderate) action.
In terms of the overall action, I'm going to guess that the longer rod is slightly "slower". Uncle Russ Calico Creek ROds Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
