I own 2 of Dale Clemmens books, but like below, I've been out of rodbuilding for a couple years and am not up to date on the latest products, which, by looking at my new Merrick catalog, I see there have been alot of new products comming out lately. Are there any new GOOD weave and butwrap books on the market now? If so, where would I pick one up or order online ? Thanks in advance..............Kyle
PS, it would have to be better than the old Clemens books, and I like his buttwrap book. Thanks again..............................Kyle Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

Hands Down, it would be Billy Vivona's new Threadart book, available from Mudhole and others. For weaving, you won't beat Doc Ski's video!!!! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

Kyle,
Billy's book has outsold every other book in the shop by a LONGSHOT since it came out about six months ago. It's very easy to follow and is loaded with patterns. I've yet to have a customer that wasn't thrilled with it. We have a special on it for RodBuilding.org readers where we pick up the cost of Priority Mail to get it to you. This special isn't linked anywhere else on our site and can only be accessed from this link on this Fourm --> [] As for Weaving, Doc's DVD is as good as it gets. We sell that along with all of his Jigs & Patterns here --> [] Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

When it comes to cross wraps I agree Billys is head and shoulders above anything else out there. Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

I've done plenty of nice buttwraps and even my own weave patterns, but I'm tired of looking at the same old buttwrap patterns. Thanks for the quick replies, I ordered Billy's allready.................Kyle Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

If BIlly has written a book, why does he keep doing the same patterns over and over again? lol.
Here are some pics from "New" wraps in the Decorative Wraps book. There are over 100 patterns in there, many are from the Clemens book, but as you see there are quite a few which are not, and there are more than what is linked to here. I'm gonna guess 65-35% Clemens to "new" patterns [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

I think he's more of a Homie the Clown than a Rock Star. Re: Another question, best book on butt wraps?

I have all three books. Having said that, for cross wraps, the variations are pretty much limitless. For example, try an open, multi-colored progressive chevron wrap but leave a space equal to 1/2 the thickness of the color section between each color section. You'll get not only the chevron effect but the visuals between the primary pattern. Sounds complex but actually did it when I messed up a simple chevron.
True enough, a number of Billy's patterns can be said to be similar, if not repeats, to Dale's original ones, but Billy's instructions are a little easier to follow, I think, and his suggestions for variations at the bottom of a page are the key to going off into all sorts of experiments. Besides, a lot of folks can't get Clemens' books at anything like a reasonable price anymore. Weaving is a whole 'nother art form. Doc Ski's stuff is some of the best for this, indeed. Want to have some fun without burning any thread? Get the software. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
