I am working on a combination swimbait/flipping rod and need a bit of input. This is a one piece 8' blank (Shikari FS 806) rated to 2 ounces but feels like it would go a bit more.
1. I am considering a 12" rear grip more for casting swimbaits than flipping but it will be used for heavy jigs too. 2. I will use 2 reels a shimano "300" size for 20 pound line plus for the swimbaits. And a Daiwa Fuego for flipping and pitching. Which ever of these works best will win a permanate spot. 3. Is there any reason to use a other standard first guide distance of 18-22 inches? I see no problem flipping but maybe I am not thinking about something here? My only concern is the blank weights 4.5 ounces bare so I am minding weight. It will have my standard split grip no foregrip etc. I hope to ba able to flip and pitch heavy baits and cast up to about 3 ounce swimbaits (I know these are babies!).
