I want to build a spinning rod for myself that will allow me to cast farther than I can with my 6' rods.
The lakes I plan on fishing have fish that range in size from 2 to 6 pounds but will also be using it for smaller fish too. The spinning reel is a Diawa BG 13 and will be using 8-10 pound line. The blank will also need to be 2 piece so it will fit into my station wagon. The rod I want to replace is a fiberglass DiawaVIP that is 6.5' and has a slow action which I don't like as I feel it not very accurate. Most likely me who is not very accurate, nonetheless I would like to go with a faster action as the bait will be in the 5/8 oz to 1 oz range. After reading the aticle on ergometrics and measuring my hand and applying the formula. I come up with a diameter of 32mm. What size real seat does his equate to if the diameter of the handle is 32mm? I can see from this post that I actually will need a check list on questions to ask and have answered if I am ever going to build rods for other people. Does anyone know of such a list? 32 mm is 1.26 inches so I imagine it will put you in the 24 - 26mm reelseat range. Are you using the 19% number or the 11% that Tom says he uses more. Re: Rod Length, action and handle/seat size

What is your hand length from first wrist crease to tip of middle finger - straight but relaxed hand as in the photo.
The New Guide Concept coupled with a more modern graphite blank should allow you to cast a bit further. More length will also aid in casting distance. ............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
