Removing scuff on lamiglas glass blank

I was finally finishing up my latest rod, when I noticed a faint black mark on the blank. It looks like a scuff or stray mark with a pen. Not sure where it came from. I tried rubbing it with denatured alcohol. I tried acetone when that didn't work. Finally, I tried lightly sanding with a gray scotch brite pad. That made it a little fainter. How much sanding can I get away with before damaging the blank? Any other ideas?

If it is a black blank just hit it with a sharpie before you flexcoat. If it bothers you alot either send the blank back or repaint the whole blank

Try a plastic poloih. TAP plastics has some I've tried: Novus 3 for heavy, thru Novus 1 for glazing. Meguires also makes some plastic polishes for things like convertible back windows, and there is some stuff for polishing motorcycle face shields and windscreens around as well. Any of them are exactly what you need.... afterall, these finishes are plastics.
Only downside I can think of is that you may need to to the entire rod. Doing one section will just leave you with an obvious clean/shiny spot :-)

Who made the blank? If it a off shore blank good luck. What is sounds like you may have gone thru the finish and you are down to a primer. You can also try a buffing rouge for jewelry. An use a Dremel buffing wheel. I all seriousness if it is your own fishing rod I would fore get it or put a small trim band over it. The rest off the suggestions take a lot of caution and work when trying to remove scuff marks. Just my 2 cents.

OOPS I miss read your post. I over read it is a Lamiglas. Lamiglas uses a differnt process when coloring their blanks. I would call Lamiglas and ask for Todd Vivian or email Todd at todd@lamiglas.com Curtis where are you located and have you talked to your supplier

Before you try any more abrasives try rubbing the mark with the rubber end of one of
your tool handles like a pair of pliars or similar. Believe it or not but the rubber coating
that covers most tool handles easily removes BLACK SHARPIE from most surfaces
just like using a pencil eraser on pencil marks! A pencil eraser also works sometimes
but not near as good as the rubber coated tool handle stuff!

Lots of good ideas. Using the rubber end of a tool handle was clever, but it didn't remove the black mark. It must be a blemish in the blank rather than a mark on the surface. I tried using a polish for removing door dings and scratches from cars. It brought back the glossy finish of the blank. So, I'm not going to worry about the blemish instead of fishing.
