fly rod to spinning reel

I know this has been discussed many times. I'm not searching right to find it. If fishing a spinning reel with about 14# line what fly wt would be appropriate? I'm thinking a 8 or 9wt. Is that close?
Thanks, steve walters

Never mind, I found the info in the archives. I knew it was there just had to get the right search.
Later, steve walters

No, because fly line weight is weight. Mono line weight is break strength. The two do not correlate at all.

An 8 or 9 weight fly rod should be sufficient to cast about 1/2 to 3/4 quarter ounce lures.

I think most saltwater fly anglers routinely use 10 and 12lb. tippet (maybe even slightly heavier) on their 9 and 10 wt. outfits without a problem. You just want to make sure that if you wrap the line on a guide or your reel seizes up, or you step on the line while a fish is running, that the tippet will break before your rod does.
