I'm doing a repair job on a surf rod, with metallic black size D over scarlet red
size A (regular thread) underwraps. Underwraps already have 2 coats CP. Do I need CP on the Gudebrod metallic black? I'm finishing with Flexcote. Thanks, Tom White Re: CP on metallic black thread?

I hear that there is no need to CP black thread. But if you use Flexcoat CP it has a white milky color, it may turn your black wraps cloudy if your not careful. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/22/2007 11:41AM by Mike Nguyen. Re: CP on metallic black thread?

except on Pearl White because I did that and it turned blue. Just thought I would share as I was really disapointed. Re: CP on metallic black thread?

No, You don't have to, but I do it anyway for these two reasons: 1) If you ever have to remove the wrap, it comes off much easier if the thread has CP and 2) I think it makes the finish stand up on the thread better to give it a nicer appearance IMO.
