Rod Bond gone bad

I got out the rod bond to attach a handle to a sand flea rake that I made and the resin part of the rod bond was crystalized and crunchy. Kind of like sugar cake icing. I figured what the heck it's for a sand flea rake, not a rod so I mixed up all of it.
It cured but it took a long time to mix and was a bit crunchy at first. The batch has no dates or lot numbers on it so I have no idea how old it is. I have only used this lot of rod bond once for a reel seat a couple of months ago, other than that it has been kept in an air conditioned room since it came from mudhole. I go through rod bond like it's going out of style so I don't think it got old sitting on my rod bench. It's always something!!! Re: Rod Bond gone bad

Warm your Rod Bond a bit until it loses it's crystallized consistency. A light warming in a microwave or a pan of hot water should correct the consistency. Unless epoxy becomes contaminated with a foreign material it shouldn't go bad. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Rod Bond gone bad

Right, it's not bad. Just heat it for a bit on a pan of very hot water and it'll return to like new condition.
Crystallization of the resin is common with any epoxy over time or if stored in a very cool area. ............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
