I wanted to put together a rod for the local firefighters breakfast raffle the end of this month. I would like to do some marbeled flames off the guild wraps. I have never done anything like this before and was wondering if anyone who has done this could give me a crash course, so I can start practicing my butt off and get this accomplished in two weeks.
Thank You, Re: marbeling help

Scott,
I have one posted in the members galleries. I used a base of black thread, A or D, doesn't really matter. I then covered this with a coat of epoxy with black pigment. I waited about 10-15 minutes and then used a needle and a toothpick to dab small amounts of red, orange and yellow pigment at the base of the wrap then dragged them through the black. Don't go to overboard. if you know what I mean. Less is better IMO. I also believe you would get a similar effect just with the black thread base with CP. The put a clear finish over the black and swirl the colours through that. Regards Mark Fisher Re: marbeling help

There is an article on this technique in the online library here, as well as two others in past issues of RodMaker.

Try a band of red colored finish around the blank then a band of yellow and then a wide band of clear (or black) and using a toothpick, pull the band of red through the yellow and up into the clear/black. It's hard to explain but actually pretty easy. Do a couple practice runs on scrap. This picture explains it much better [www.rodbuilding.org] I think that Jim used bands of red/yelloe/red/yellow them clear. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: marbeling help
