Is there a good list or article for the fisherman - something that goes into rod care as well as handling both while fishing as well as transporting, etc, etc, etc. I know its been discussed and several people have one of their own, but is there one in RM or on this site or on RBI or someplace else thats nice and comprehensive that I just aint seein'? Not that I know about....but I would be happy to compile such a list and make it available through the RBI web site and the library here.
Everyone send me things to include or post them here and I'll start compiling the list. It would make a good handout for customers. Joe Douglas Re: Customer Do's and Dont's

The Rodmaker Article last year on the proper use of a fishing rod to minimize breakage is given to each person who leaves my shop with a rod. It is well done comprehensive and right on target. The photographs are quite good and easily understood. Re: Customer Do's and Dont's

Excellent Joe - I think that would be a great resource, and an appropriate place for it! Here's what I've been using, but there's more that I've read here in pieces and think *we* could add to it. We provide a rod bag or sock with each rod. We explain it's not because the rod is fragile, but it's to provide a bit of protection from normal dirt and grime in transport.
We explain our "Rod Washing Tube" - a 7', 4"ID piece of PVC pipe with holes at the top, just under a hose fitting. We can put six regular rods in there nicely, or four surf sticks (both parts), and some liquid dishwashing stuff, and turn the hose on, and it becomes a dishwasher for the rods. As the water chrunesinside and then comes ou the top, we let it run till it's clear. It takes off all but the worst sum, scales, and such. A bit of scrubbing with a small nail brush and some powder-type cleaner gets the rest off. Then, wipe off with a dry soft cloth and it's done. How often? As often as you like, but we do it once a month. We explain our "guide wipe" trick - a bit of G96 or something similar on a soft cloth or even paper towel, wiped on the guides (not on the rod) to prevent moisture. How often? When we do the Wash Tube, of course. We explain our stress tests as we build the rod, and talk about car or house doors and snags, but we make it fun. But that's about it. We probably should put it in a sheet to go with the rod but we hav en't got there yet. Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
