One week left in the Challenge, which so far has seen some truly amazing and unique handles, as well as pushed several rodbuilders to try things they have never tried before. I hope everyone participating is having fun wiht it, and learning new stuff, as that's what it is about. I have completed one grip which I really didn't like, but it might give someone else an idea. I just recieved the materials to put together another grip which is a really cool product for those looking to work wih square stock but are limited to wood and EVA. Special thanks goes out to those who have submitted entries so far, next wekk I'll put it links to every entry submitted in this contest. I was planning on making a grip out of chamagne corks in retaliation for the crap cork I've been seeing but after about 6 bottles and multiple hangovers I switched back to beer. If I could make a handle out of beer caps I probably could have finished at least 6 rods in the time this competition has been going on. Re: Grip Challenge - one week to go

Just recieved an E-mail from a Rodbuilder stationed in Iraq, REggie Kallous. He wanted me to enter the following grip into the contest, which I'm glad to do. I didn't pay much attention the first time around, but take a look at what he used as a trim ring material!! [www.rodbuilding.org]

Well, fishing and some house projects delayed this project but I finally got the grip finished. The reel is encased in the cork and the rod will end up being a Shakey Head rod when I'm finish with the guides. I'm a bass player and have always prefered larger grips (tennis, bass's, fishing rods) so this one feels real good to me !
