Changing a factory rod to a spiral

Do I run the risk of making a factory casting rod worse if I just rotate all but the butt guide to the bottom and add in a bumper? The spacing isnt optimum, but its not too far off; and its just "cleaner" to just put guides back where they were.

Actually, doing what you suggest will make the rod better. It may still not be optimum since you're working with the factory guide spacing, but it'll be better than it was when all the guides were on top.

Just a suggestion from an amatuer: If it's a 2 piece rod, just put the tip section on with the guides down instead of up, and try it. I've seen this suggested before on here.
