Can't getta grip

I had a guy drop off a rod (old school) w/Varmax reel seat w/grips that look like hypolon/rubber mix, heavy, he called them nylon grips. I don't know where or how I would even get a hold of the same type of material. Of course, b4 I decided to do the work I made it clear it might have to be replaced with either EVA or Hypolon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Rod, Reels and 18 wheels.

Never heard of nylon grips. You've most likely got EVA, Hypalon, or rubber type.

Could you post a photo on the photo page so we can see what you've got.

Ed, what color are the grips and are they hard like wood hard, are they spotted, like some kind of composite?

What we have here sounds like possibly an old Harnell or Harrington [same people] with tan in color rubber grips that were very heavy.
There is no way you can replace these to look original....if they are in good shape ,wipe them down with lacquer thinner [wear gloves] and
you may find a Harnell logo on the grips. If they are a basket case replace with Hypalon.
