Skeleton Reel Seats

Hi Guys,

I am new to the board. I have been surfing for a while and am impressed by the wealth of knowledge of all you members.

Anyway, I am keen to find alternative menufacturers of reel seats similar to the Fuji SBS type.

The ones on the Shimano T Curve spinnng rods are very good however, I can't seem to find manufacturers or retailers.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thank you
Chris

The T-Curves use the SBS seat. Unfortunately the SBS is only available in size 16, which for the shape is pretty small, and can be uncomfortable, especially if the rod isn't well balanced. The IPS seat has a fatter section that fits the hand better. I have recently began using a skeleton seat, with a swelled cork insert, shaped to the same contours as the SBS seat, with no foregrip and trimmed threads. I now use a size 17 skeleton seat, but a size 16 will work ok for smaller hands. By the same token, a size 18 works for larger mitts.

Chris, Ted,
Isn't the AmTack Aero and Mudhole comfort wood seat shaped much like the SBS was? 16mm is also their size unfortunately.

Thanks Ted. I had an IPS seat wich was great except for the locking foregrip. When tightened onto the reel foot, it tilted off centre as it clamped the foot. I notice the Tcurve has a proper hood and the spining grip affixed to the nut. I will do some more research.

Chris you can get a regular hood and nut for the IPS seats. Someone on the left should carry them.

Thank you for the info. I think i will clad the actual hood in cork and have a slip joint between the spinnning part of the foregrip and the fixed hood cladding. This will get rid of the unsightly sliver hood.

Yes, Spencer, the Aero and the Mudhole Comfort all aim to achieve the same sort of shape. The Aero has a bigger hump that sits right in the palm, but again it is pretty small with regards to diameter at the thread and the rear of the seat. Like I said before, size 16 is small indeed. Chris, the SBS on the T-Curve uses the foregrip tube with a nut. Custom Tackle has the item, in size 16 and 18. The code number is KFPSD - 16/18, under Fuji Quick Lock foregrips. The KFPSD will fit the IPS and the SBS seat, as well as the appropriate sized pipe seats (DPSD or DPSM).

KFPSD hoods will not fit the SBS seats, the SBS seat has no looking groove for the the hood to run along and the flare past the point where the thread ends is completely different to the IPS seat. Try turning the SBS reel seat upside down compared to the T-curve rod. Check out the pic I will place in the photos section. Cheers Paul.

What in the heck is with these "sz 16 only" type seats anyway? Does everyone think that this sz seat is the "bomb"? The only time I use a seat that size is upon request.

I agree on the size 16 issue. They are very thin and can be uncomfortable.

So the KFPSD won't fit!! I will have to stick with the SBS threaded sleeve then. I was really looking for that seamless aesthetic.
