I did not use NCP thread and did use CP. I am thinking that maybe the CP was not totally dried or set up.
It is funny but the other guides were fine. This is the first guide from the tiptop. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/14/2007 10:50PM by john creamer. Re: Cloudy color in wrap

I could be wrong but I would suspect that the CP wasn't completely dried. How long did you wait? Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Cloudy color in wrap

If you used a CP (Flexcoat) that uses white solids you have made a mistake. The solids will appear as a milky way type cloud in the background. It is not recommended on black thread. Take the rod out in the sunlight and you can see the tiny little flecks of white. If you have other color of threads present that require CP use the 811 - if not omit the CP step. Yep that is what I did.
It a good lesson and is the first rod. It looks pretty good but has the little flakes of white in the background, It should make a good pier rod. Thanks for the info. Re: Cloudy color in wrap

John,
Let your finish cure, then scuff with very fine (800grit or finer) sand paper or scuff pad, wipe clean. Next take Testors flat black paint and paint the black part of the wraps, let dry (the flat dries FAST) then recoat with your finish and it will look perfect! Just a quick fix :-) DR Re: Cloudy color in wrap

Just call it the "Moon Beam Special" or "Star Trek Galaxy" - it will fish fine! If you end up selling it be sure to charge extra for all the work it took you to hand paint in all the little "Points of Light". If that is the only mistake you made your are in good shape!

i've found with black thread CP isn't really needed as it doesn't turn transparent like the other threads.... or is it just me? Re: Cloudy color in wrap

No CP needed on regular nylon black
That is why store rods use it, cuts off a step Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
