I use the visor a lot, Acid Rod has a nice one. I also have a Ott folding worklight that I slide across behind the work as needed and I bought the spring clasp Ott mag lens on a snake mount because it's a lot lighter and stays where I put it for work where it's going to be in the same place for a while.
Add a nice set of color correct florescents above the work and your all set. I think I had maybe $160 in task lighting and accessories, but the difference has been huge in my quality control with these old eyes. Re: Where to buy a high quality magnifying lamp?

Spencer is right on all counts, cant have too much good light. And the Visor Acid Rod sells is super,I have one very similar. My old welding arc burned up eyes need all the help they can get. Shipping is good at Acid Rod also ! Re: Where to buy a high quality magnifying lamp?

I use a Day Lamp I picked up somewhere. It comes with an 18W special bulb thingy and has a decent magnifying glass on a flex stem that works great

I had an OptiVisor but returned it and ordered the @#$%& unit because it has the lights. As for a magnifying light, there are several extrended-arm units in the fly-tying sections of a lot of catalogs, most of the better ones run about $70 or so.
