Bleeding Problem

I did a weave a few nights ago that was red on top of black, and the black bled and ruined the weave. I used Gudebrod's standard nylon thread and Flexcoat color preserver. I've used this color combination with the same color preserver on several wraps over the years, but I've never had this problem. I was away from rod building for about ten years and the thread was stored, so it's at least ten years old. It shouldn't be contaminated, and the color preserver is only a couple of months old. It's very thick, though. I used Flexcoat CP over the years, but I don't remember it being so thick. Could this be the problem? Can it be thinned?
Thanks, Stanley Stanley sschaefer2@gt.rr.com Re: Bleeding Problem

I think maybe the color preserver didn't penetrate or saturate the underlayer of threads as well as you needed it to. We've switched to Gudebrod CP for just that reason - it seems to be thinner when new than the Flex Coat. I know there's all kinds of answers you'll get with secientific reasons for this but that's my non-technical answer.

The only bleeding problems I have had were when the razor blade slipped remoing a guide for repair. How many coats did you use?I have always used Flex-Coat because it is the only one available locally and I always forget to order some others when using the sponcers.Never had a problem but always use at least 2 coats.
