I'm looking to replicate a loomis l844-2 gray blank (gl3? about 16 yrs old) with a 3 or 4 piece blank. I love that l844-2 but want something more travel friendly.
This rod was built as a tarpon and musky inline spinner & sucker rod and has even caught a 140lb class striped marlin. rating from loomis was 3/8- 2 1/4 oz 10-20lb line. I'll probably build it as a casting rod but may build it as spinning or one of each. I want it to be my all around travel rod for everything between 12-20lb line though it will probably mostly get 15 or 20. I'll troll cuda tubes, rapala magnums, and throw a variety of lighter musky lures, scudders, etc. Did I mention, I'll abuse the heck out of it in the process? Ok maybe, I'm gushing about the loomis but it does all the stuff above and it was the 1st rod I built so I hope you'll forgive me. what would you recommend for a blank? also, any guides you like for it? Thanks Jayw Re: substitute for loomis l844-2

The Rainshadow IC847-3 blank would be on my short list. It throws a little heavier than it's 2 oz rating. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
