I'm brand new to this site and starting to get ready to build my first rod. I have a couple, probably stupid, questions, but I'll ask them anyway.
I'm probably going with a Rainshadow SW1087 blank for my first rod. It is listed as coming in matte clear and transparent black. Can anyone either explain to me what those look like (color wise) or email me a photo of each. Also, when looking at the butt size (.745) and tip size (7.5) of these blanks I assume the butt is .745 inches in diameter but I have no idea how the tip is measured. I told you they were stupid questions... I'll probably have more as I get going. Re: Blank questions

Hi Bruce,
I'm fairly new myself but I'll give it a shot since I think I know the answer. Yes, butt size will be measured in inches. Tip size is actually measured in 64th's of inches. So 7.5 is actually 7.5/64th's of an inch. Hope this helps, Jeff Re: Blank questions

matte clear is a no gloss finish with natural grey color
transparent black is black in color witha glossy finish - you can check out their website or catalog to get an eye on these colors. if the tip size is 7.5 then the tube size for the tip top 'should' be 7.5 size as well - but you might wait to get the rod to measure and check for sure. to translate into inches a 7.5 tip would be 7.5/64ths of an inch Edited 1 time(s).
