I am going to turn down a hardwood handle and I would like to lighten it up by boring it and using an arbor .My question is do you bore it before you turn it down or after.I didn`t know if the bigger brad point would follow the predrilled hole.Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks Mark Re: oversize boring question

I bore it it before I turn a full grip so that it will end up concentric to the hole, but on split grips/foregrips I bore the size where it will fit where I want it on the blank and then bore to within a 1/2' of the end and use a Flexcoat arbor. That way the arbor won't show on the end that is exposed. That
s a trick from Stan Grace. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: oversize boring question

Mark,
On the short ones where I can use a standard size bit (splits, etc) I haven't had any problem putting the turned piece back in the chuck and reboring (Very slowly). Wrap a lot of tape on the part that goes in the chuck so you don't mar it. I put a piece up tape on the bit to mark how far to go in. Try it on a piece of scrap Here's the pic that inspired me to try it [www.rodbuilding.org] Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!
