Rod Armor question

I am redoing a rod for a friend and was looking to try Nu-skin rod armor on the butt grip. It used to have cork tape but it was worn down and taken off, by my friend. I was thinking of using rod armor on top of the blank, w/o cork tape. Is this doable? Or do I need a layer of cork tape first. This is a thick surfstick, so I'm trying not to increase the diameter too much.
Any Ideas? Thanks Tony Re: Rod Armor question

You can also use two faced tape, I think it comes with the Kit. I believe they recomend that you not place it directlly on the Blank Re: Rod Armor question

That would not be advisable Tony.
Use the search button and use "rod armor or X-flock". There is a couple of recent posts on the sublect. Also try searching "Mark Griffin" as the author. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Rod Armor question

Yeah, there's no cushion at all w/o cork or foam tape under it. Not real comfortable.
They have two kits w/tape. One is just a double sided Mylar tape, which is for application over an old grip. It simply keeps the shrink tube from turning/slipping. The other kit is double sided Foam tape, which is for use on new builds, directly onto the blank. It gives a little more cushion than cork tape while preventing the tube from slipping. You may be able to find something similar (about 1" X 1/16") at the Hardware store, but I'm not sure if it's going to have adhesive on both sides. You could always use that and add some epoxy or double stick tape to it after it's on the blank if you can't find the double stick type. If you can't find it locally, drop me an email. I've got a couple rolls of it on the shelf. Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: Rod Armor question

OK, that changes my game plan, LOL. Mark, I'll check the hardware stores. If I can't find the Foam tape, I'll get in touch.
