I am playing with a pink rod- an attempt to work on an Alaskan Fireweed theme. Have never worked with a painted rod before. The pink layer seems a bit fragile. I assume the proper fix is to apply a coat of perma gloss to the rod? Thanks,

Perma gloss will lift the majority of paints. Do a search for additional info

I painted two boat rods (one pink, one blue) with Ace spray enamel. The next day I put on a protective coat of Krylon Crystal Clear. The following day I applied Permagloss and it worked great. The Clear Coat acted as a secure barrier to protect the enamel from the Permagloss.. I had tried it without the Clear Coat and the Permagloss made a mess of the enamel. The added weight of all this had little to no noticable effect on the rods as they were 20-40# class. I would not do it on an ultralight spinning rod or light fly rod. I don't have a digital camera to offer photos, but the colors are fine and the blanks are very well protected under the Permagloss.

The other thing you could do is tint the Permagloss with a pink pigment and then apply to the rod.
