Thinning Gudebrod #840 rod finish

Folks:
Now don't make fun of me but I'm still using Gudebrod rod finishing products. The urethanes are fine (i've tried U40 Permagloss) but the shelf life is not very good and I can't get the 'hang' of using the spatulas for the high build stuff. Anyway, I'm trying to finish a rod using Gudebrod #840 finish and it's getting a bit thick halfway through the bottle. Even though It's water cleanup I am hesitant to thin it with water. What should I use?
Thanks:
Den

I would contact Gudebrod about their #840 rod finish and see what they recommend. As for extending the shelf life on Permagloss there are 2 way I use. One is if I use the same container. I add a few split shot to the {Permagloss to take up the air space left when I use it. Permagloss is air activated. The next way is I pour the Permagloss into a small ½ pint paint container that has not been used. First I take a small finishing nail and punch a hole near the bottom on the side. Now using a small hook screw I screw into the hole. Thus when I need some Permagloss all I have to do is unscrew the hook take what I want and rescrew the hook back in. Right now I have a can of Permagloss that I used 6 months ago and it is still good, Dennis what a using a spatula for? If you are just coating a blank? you use a different process when doing a blank than you use when coating thread.
Good Wraps Bob
