Universal Rod Rating System (URRS)
The 2007 Rod Expo Seminar Program lists the title of my talk as ?The Common Cents System,? and I will indeed cover that subject. However, I also intend to introduce my new URRS which is an extension of the CCS to include fishing rods of all types?at least all rods which can be deflected a distance equal to one third of its length. This system is intended to provide an objective measure of a rod?s intrinsic power or effective rod number (ERN), tip power (TP) and power reservoir (PR) or butt power, by means of three numbers, e.g., 8:4:18. With the establishment of a URR data base similar to the CCS data base, rod builders should be able to compare blanks from any and all suppliers. While any angler can cast any lure some distance using any rod, there are certain attributes (ERN, TP, PR) which makes any given rod more suitable for one application than another. With the URRS, these attributes can now be measured and correlations can be developed. But first, we need data. Anyone purchasing a blank at the Expo is invited to bring it to my booth and have it measured (no tuna rods, please) so that we can begin to create a data base. Bill,
What are tip power and power reservoir. Do you have this written up or is it available any where that I can get access to it? Re: Request from Dr. Hanneman

It will be presented at the Expo this weekend and then the detailed article will appear in RodMaker in either the #2 or #3 issue this year.

Many many thanks to Dr. Hanneman for quickly removing the mystery from what (before) seemed a bit confusing. His presentation on this subject was OUTSTANDING!
