We don't supply guide spacings willy-nilly, save only as a starting point for a static test. We leave that to the respective Mfg's to supply you with. What goes on here is how-to information that shows you how to guide a specific rod with the fewest number of guides it requires, AND with regard to a spinning rod, guiding to a SPECIFIC REEL. There's how-to information to guide not only what a rod requires but what a specific reel on that rod would require, making the finished outfit truly custom, Whereas Mfg's have incentive to cut corners, saving money and corresponding labor in significant quanties, that supplying less, showsup on the bottom profit line, rather than more. Case in point, G-loomis built a 10' spinning rod, commonly used for steelhead and saw no problem in putting only 8 guides on it. The retail shoppers guide regarding the minimum number of guides for a given rod figures to be one guide per foot of rod not counting the tip. Check out the RBO library under; concept guiding and static testing and get away from the production mind set. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/06/2007 11:04AM by Chris Karp. Joakim,
Here is a guide spacing chart that will help you get started. If you want to build a factory copy that works use it verbatum. However, if you want to build the blank to it's highest potential and make a far superior fishing rod use it only as a place to start. [www.merricktackle.com] The optimum sizing and placement of line guides is not difficult but it does take some homework to aquire the knowlage. Read the FAQ and Library sections here, get a book or 2, and then you will be better armed to tackle the job at hand and you will be glad you did.
