Hi
I need your suggestion regarding surf blank, as i am into make my first surf rod. i am in between Rainshadow su1266 f / su1267f or super seeker ss36 . I prefer 2 PCs between 9-11' , 12-25 or 15-40 ib test line , actually here in southern california we fish for perch , sharks / rays and halibut ( but as you know its saltwater and lots of different spices ) . i use small live sardine or Lucky craft lure most of the time .it can be spinning or baitcasting What would be your Guide choice ? Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and your help Best Regards Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/22/2007 05:35AM by shahrokh mirfakhraei. Re: Need help for surf blank

The new concept guide article in the Library will help you with spinning guide selection, without more info on line size/type used and reel specs it's hard for use to help with a spinning rod. Sponsors like Mudhole, Angler's Workshop carry all of your blanks so they can make some suggestions. Might be some Lamiglas surf blanks on sale at Angler's as I saw some coming in last time I was in the back. Re: Need help for surf blank

I can tell you about the blanks but not much in terms of guide sizes or placement. The su 1266 will cast up to 5 ozs really well and can handle a light cast with 6ozs. The 1267, I believe, will handle 6 ozs very well. I currently fish the 1266 and it is an incredible rod and is capable of very long casts and fighting very big fish (largest I've caught so far is a 46" Red Drum). It is a fantistic all around rod and is usually the first rod I pick up when fishing the surf. It's light and I can get long casts with as little as 3 ozs and it still has enough backbone to make light casts with 6 ozs. Rainshadow makes tough, strong blanks that cast extremely well and fight big fish very well. I also have the 1145, 1415, and 1508 and they all do a fantastic job. All built as spinners. I know a lot of people that use these blanks and I have never heard any complaints about them from anyone.
As far as guides go I have Pac Bay guides on the 1145 and 1266 and Fuji SIC guides on the 1415 and 1508. I wouldn't hesitate to use the Pac Bays again. The have held up very well with no grooving and no corosion. Obviously the Fuji SIC guides have been very good as well. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
