Why not just add a little acetone to the resin in the regular Threadmaster? That's what I do and it works fine.

I know that a lot of folks thin their epoxies with acetone or MEK and manage to get by with it, but others are not so lucky. You would be hard pressed to find any manufacturer or formulator of epoxy that recommends thinning their product with a solvent.

It might be just me, but I would think that if it were that easy, Andy (And the other companies) would just dilute his TM and call it Lite instead of spending the time and money to develope a lite version. It's my understanding that 2 part epoxies have a "filler" added to one of the parts so that a 50-50 mix works since the actual ratio of resin and hardener is quite different than 50-50. If that is the case, then any thinning will upset the very formula that the formulator came up with and possibly changing the properties.

Tom,

I would rather shoot myself in the foot than disagree with you, but Flexcoat not only recomends thinning with acetone, but gives detailed instructions on how to do it on their website and in their 2005 catalog . I stopped thinning Flexcoat and just use the lite build for a primer coat and high build on the final coat, just to eleiminate the thinning step.

Ronnie,

Flex Coat neither manufactures nor formulates epoxy.
